Packing case gaskets are a critical component to the packing case assembly. Any damage to the gasket will cause leakage when the packing case is installed in the stuffing box. Because of interaction of certain gases on various metals, different materials are used in certain applications. Copper is used in Air service, Inert gases, nitrogen, sweet natural gas, methane, ethane, oxygen, argon and ethylene. Soft Iron is used in sour natural gas, ammonia, and CO2. Monel is used in chlorine and vinyl chloride. Aluminum is used when specified by the Original Equipment Manufacturer.
